High-Rate High-Speed Forward Error Correction Architectures for Aeronautical Telemetry (HFEC)

Forward error correction (FEC) coding schemes are commonly used in communication systems to improve link reliability and increase operating range. In aeronautical telemetry, FEC codes are integral to the developing integrated Network Enhanced Telemetry (iNET). iNET supports more elaborate test scenarios while conserving RF spectrum.
ITTC research will develop and implement hardware reference prototypes for spectrally efficient, high bit rate, high performance FEC codes for use with current and future telemetry waveforms. These reference prototypes fill a current technology shortfall by providing hardware that will enable a more widespread deployment of FEC in existing serial streaming telemetry (SST) links. Additionally, the ITTC prototypes will fill a future technology shortfall by providing hardware to support and enable ongoing development of iNET.
