TRI 2006 Research Program Research Team Partnership (RTP Award): Development of Technologies for Trusted Corridors
Project Award Date: 08-18-2006
Exports from Asia have increased, creating bottlenecks at key U.S. ports. A Kansas City group, SmartPort, has recognized the strategic position of KC and has worked to expand its role in distribution and to increase traffic through the KC area. SmartPort is developing a U.S. export capability and has the only Mexican Customs clearance not at the border. The goal is establishment of a trusted corridor.
SmartPort users have indicated the need for visibility into cargo movement. SmartPort stakeholders complain of "black-holes" when freight changes hands across modes. Visibility will only be possible through the integration of information. There is a need to track and monitor cargo movements along a trusted corridor.
Researchers will integrate intelligent data entry, which is needed for the SmartPort data clearinghouse. ITTC-developed technology will monitor all activity within the transportation system.
